Click to enlarge The Opuwo Youth Group once again take their talent, energy and strong
message into the surrounding communities. during the months of
Februalry and March. Under the direction of Philippe Talavera they
created a show full of drama, dance and songs, to entertain school
children and communities alike, but also to convey a strong message
about sexual responsibility and staying healthy.
During the tour, they visited Oshana and Omusati regions. They
presented 5 school shows (Ondangwa Town Council for 4 schools, Iipimbu
Secondary School for 4 schools, Roman Catholic Hall for 6 schools,
Outapi Youth Centre for 9 schools and Ruacana Vocational Secondary
School) to a total of 1950 learners. They presented an additional 4
community shows (Ondangwa, Oshakati, Ombalantu and Omaulai) to a total
of 300 community members (the number was not as high as usual due to
heavy rains and oshanas). They distributed over 2000 condoms and 500
femidoms. They held 5 workshops with AIDS Awareness Clubs (AAC) in the
schools visited, involving 380 learners (a couple of AAC were really
impressed by their approach and motivated by the workshop). They had a
chance to interact with well-known group Omaleshe in Oshakati and young
musicians in Ombalantu. Finally, they appeared in the Youth Paper of
the Namibian and recorded their show at NBC Oshiwambo Radio.
