Our Aim
To build a greater awareness, understanding, responsibility and action about many social issues, such as early teenage pregnancy, sexual health, drug and alcohol abuse, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence and intercultural tolerance and understanding. LiveEd will build a foundation of social awareness through arts education and excellence through partnerships between Newham, London, UK and other countries leading up to the Olympic Games in London 2012. These strategic partnerships will to create a model for other boroughs and countries.
Our Objectives
LiveEd has four main objectives; to create strategic partnerships that promote learning and change, to raise awareness of health & social issues affecting the countries involved, to develop an international awareness and respect for world cultures, encouraging participants to explore and celebrate difference and to add to the research on measuring the impact of the above issues through the creative arts. In more detail these are:
- To create strategic partnerships that promote learning and change. This will be achieved through:
- A broadened participation in the arts amongst the diverse communities.
- The building & development of partnerships between schools, colleges, universities and community groups and arts organizations
- Developing skills and confidences for young leaders in creative and performing Arts.
- The sharing of knowledge and skills between young performing artists, Leaders, researchers and administrators.
- The building of audiences for dance, drama, poetry, media, music and the visual arts and ultimately The development of a future for creative industries in all countries.
- The building of effective communication between young people, teachers, artists, managers, technicians and administrators across the countries and communities involved.
- The creation of positive changes and learning within an informal educational framework.
- The provision of performance opportunities in a variety of settings
- The development of excellence in performing and creative arts
- The production of a series of performing events culminating in a grand finale LiveEd 2012
- Therefore, by 2012, the project will have developed a large number of young artists, teachers and professional and will have exposed them to other forms of thinking and creativity (through the exchange program), hence promoting a culture of understanding and respect.
- To raise awareness of health & social issues affecting the countries involved. This will be achieved through:
- The preparation of performance projects whereby participants from countries involved are invited to reflect on health and social issues affecting their respective communities, using art forms.
- The sharing of view points between participants from all countries.
- The development of an understanding of how issues are affected by different settings, hence the importance of respect and understanding.
- The development of self respect and self development amongst participants, organizations, etc through initiatives such NVC.
- The creation of young role models through participation and performance.
- Therefore by 2012, all communities will have a broaden understanding of health and social issues that are affecting them and will have developed a series of artistic products to create awareness among the public on those issues.
- To develop an international awareness and respect for world cultures, encouraging participants to explore and celebrate difference. This will be achieved through:
- The sharing of view points, traditions and beliefs.
- Exploring the impacts of tourism through drama, song writing and dance choreography.
- All projects being taught through the philosophy that all tutors and young people participate as teachers and learners.
- The exchange visits by identified groups to experience life in other countries directly.
- Developing exchange of information through a variety of communication, including ICT, internet, post, DVD, Audio etc…
- Offering opportunity to develop links and friendships.
- Therefore by 2012 the sharing communities will have a broader understanding, awareness and respect of other cultures, beliefs and traditions.
- To add to the research on measuring the impact of the above issues through the creative arts. This is will be achieved through:
- The documentation of the process and outcomes through audio visual, media, questionnaires, CD's, DVD, interactive virtual learning, report writing.
- Thorough reports and presentation to interested parties and seminars
- Based on lessons learnt, the development of a model to replicate the scheme with other boroughs and countries.
- Therefore by 2012 a model will have been developed and will be available for further use by other boroughs and countries.
