Social action in Education through the arts
In London, UK, for example, young people will be the hosts for the 2012 Olympics. This is a huge responsibility for the young community. LiveEd supports and fosters opportunities for young people to learn about tolerance, diversity and warm welcomes in order that they can fulfil this role successfully. Looking beyond 2012 to the rise of Stratford City (with the channel tunnel terminus) and the Thames Gateway development, we need a clear vision that will satisfy long term political concerns. Empowerment through the arts as well as sport and education can raise performance and confidence in young people to compete for future jobs in the fast changing Global economy.
LiveEd needs partnerships with business organizations, willing to contribute funding, expertise, volunteers, space, resources and friendship. In return, you will receive:
- an opportunity to be connected to the main borough hosting the Olympics 2012
- an opportunity to contribute to the development of young people locally and in other, less developed parts of the world
- recognition of your partnership on all communications undertaken for LiveEd activity.
- an opportunity for your staff to contribute their time and energy during Creative Arts performance events, for example ushering, selling tickets, costume and set design and making, photographing, writing articles for the website etc… *all contributions involving young children will require volunteers to be fully CRB checked
LiveEd will create opportunities for young people, creative arts leaders and teachers to share and explore their lives through poetry, dance, drama, art, song writing and music making, made manifest in a series of small and large scale performance events in Newham and beyond.
Through the shared learning process LiveEd aims to foster development of young artists, leaders and teachers and their personal expression, skills and qualifications. This will happen initially through a six year program of collaborative and developmental exchanges, workshops, and performances, based in Newham and Namibia in the first place, expanding as partnerships become embedded. LiveEd also aims to build the resource base and new media infrastructure for exchanging information, so that both Newham and other participating countries can share their experiences of the creative arts programmes.
By 2012 Newham will be ready to host a series of live events involving young ambassadors from around the world, showcasing the work they have created and developed together through collaboration enabled through LiveEd program.
Funding is raised by a combination of contributions from participating organisations and national and international funding bodies. LiveEd goes beyond Aid, or Political publicity. It addresses ‘Live’ action in collaboration and a shared vision for the power of partnership.
